Amsterdam-based Source.ag has raised $17.5 million in Series B funding to expand its software platform that they say helps greenhouse farmers grow more food with greater efficiency.
Source.ag develops software specifically for controlled environment agriculture (CEA). The company’s platform addresses two pressing industry challenges: rising global demand for fresh produce and a shortage of experienced growers who understand the complexities of greenhouse cultivation.
The company maintains the software acts as a digital assistant for greenhouse operators, helping them make better decisions about when to water plants, predict crop yields, and optimize growing conditions. Since launch, the platform has been deployed across more than 300 greenhouses spanning 2,500 hectares in 18 countries, supporting the daily production of tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers that feed an estimated 40 million people.
Source.ag says its software can predict tomato yields with significantly improved accuracy and fully automate irrigation systems. “This funding confirms the industry’s belief in our vision: food innovation requires technology companies to partner closely with growers,” said Rien Kamman, CEO and co-founder of Source.ag. “Our ambition is to sustainably feed everyone with sufficient fruits and vegetables.”
The investment was led by Astanor venture capital, bringing the company’s total funding to over $60 million since its founding in 2020. The funding round also included investments from seed company Enza Zaden and grower cooperative Harvest House.
