During UPL Corporation Ltd’s recent Mexico Sustainability Council, held in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, the company inaugurated its new state-of-the-art greenhouses, a project representing an investment of over USD 1.5 million.
The facilities – three fully automated tempered-glass greenhouses built by Richel France/México – are the first of their kind in the country and are part of the Global NPP Research Center, which since 2023 has accumulated more than USD 5 million in investment and brings together a team of over 20 specialized researchers.
The Ramos Arizpe greenhouses are part of UPL’s global innovation network, alongside research centers in France and the United States. Through advanced biostimulant trials and controlled-condition studies, the center will validate the performance of natural plant protection (NPP) products, ensuring scientifically robust and scalable results for regions such as China, Brazil, and Africa. In 2026, the facility will also include a specialized laboratory dedicated to studying the mode of action of biostimulants at the gene expression level, making UPL the first global company in Mexico with next-generation glasshouse infrastructure devoted exclusively to agricultural research.
UPL’s third edition of the Mexico Sustainability Council was held with the theme “Reinventing Sustainability”, strengthening this forum as a key platform for dialogue and joint action among the main stakeholders of Mexico’s agri-food system.
The event, hosted at UPL’s Global NPP Research Center in Ramos Arizpe, brought together representatives from CIMMYT, FAO, CNA, and the Ministry of Rural Development of Coahuila, as well as government authorities and international experts. Throughout the day, participants addressed crucial topics for the future of the sector, including sustainable innovation, technological integration, productivity enhancement, and farmers’ resilience to climate change. UPL also presented its 2024 Sustainability Report, outlining the company’s progress and commitments in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters.
