New platform builds on more than 35 years of biologicals expertise and aims to expand the company’s reach into new markets

Grupo Fertiberia has launched TRIXIA, a biotechnology platform for agriculture that builds on the more than 35-year history of its biologicals business TRICHODEX.

The new platform combines TRICHODEX’s expertise in biocontrol, applied microbiology and biostimulation with Grupo Fertiberia’s financial resources, manufacturing capacity and commercial network. TRIXIA is intended to support the development and commercialization of biological solutions for soil health, plant health and crop performance.

TRIXIA is already active in the Iberian Peninsula, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America. The company plans to expand its operations in those markets while entering additional geographies.

“We are facing a structural shift in agriculture. The challenge is no longer just providing nutrients, but ensuring crops can utilize them as efficiently as possible,” said Juan Pablo Llobet, CEO of Grupo Fertiberia. He said the company is developing solutions that can be used independently or incorporated directly into fertilizers to improve their agronomic and environmental efficiency.

The platform combines three proprietary technologies. FPB uses multiphase fermentation to develop microorganisms as functional communities; MAMPs Enhancer is designed to strengthen molecular signals involved in the plant’s natural defence responses; and Micro-Nanoencapsulation protects biological active ingredients until they reach their intended target.

The technologies cover the development process from microorganism selection through field application. They also support BioAdapta, a service through which TRIXIA works with customers to develop solutions for specific agricultural challenges.

Llobet said the platform’s ability to incorporate biological technologies into different agricultural production systems is a key part of the strategy.

“What sets TRIXIA apart is its technology, which is capable not only of developing superior products, but also of integrating them into major agricultural production systems, such as solid fertilizers, fertigation, seed treatment, or integrated management programs,” he said.

Khalid Akdi Elaroussi, who previously led TRICHODEX, has been appointed general manager of TRIXIA. He said the platform’s technologies are intended to improve soil and plant processes while supporting crop resilience.

“The technologies integrated into the TRIXIA platform regenerate soil health by activating and balancing its microbiome, improve plant nutrition and nutrient availability, enhance crop performance and resilience to stress, and support the transition towards more productive, sustainable and regenerative farming systems,” he said.

Akdi Elaroussi added that TRIXIA represents an evolution rather than a new beginning for the biologicals business. “TRIXIA is not starting from scratch; it is the evolution of TRICHODEX, now equipped with greater ambition and ready to bring more than three decades of expertise and innovative spirit to a global stage,” he said.

Grupo Fertiberia said the new platform will allow it to move existing biologicals activities into a broader international growth strategy, with expansion focused on markets it considers to have significant potential for biological agricultural solutions.
