Micropep advances peptide biofungicide Promisin toward global commercialization

Micropep Technologies has expanded the regulatory pathway for its lead peptide-based biofungicide, Promisin, with submissions in the United States and European Union, following earlier filings in Brazil and Paraguay.

The latest applications mark another step in the company’s commercialization strategy, extending regulatory reviews across North America, Europe and Latin America. While the Brazil and Paraguay submissions focus on soybean diseases, the U.S. and EU dossiers include fungal diseases affecting grapes and potatoes.

Promisin is the first product developed using Micropep’s Krisalix discovery platform. The peptide-based biofungicide is designed for both broad-acre and high-value crops and is intended to provide a new mode of action for managing fungal diseases while fitting into existing crop protection programs.

The regulatory submissions are supported by more than three years of development and more than 200 field trials conducted across North America, Europe and Latin America. According to the company, the trials demonstrated consistent disease control both as a stand-alone treatment and when used alongside existing crop protection programs.

Earlier submissions in Brazil and Paraguay target major soybean diseases, including Asian soybean rust, target spot and Cercospora leaf blight. The company said Promisin’s peptide-based mode of action is intended to support resistance management by disrupting fungal cell membranes and can be used as a rotation partner or in tank mixes with other crop protection products.

Micropep said Promisin was developed to address increasing fungicide resistance, changing regulatory requirements and demand for biological crop protection products. The company also highlighted its broad-spectrum activity, compatibility with existing spray programs, favourable safety profile and cost structure designed for large-scale row crop production.
