Cinis Fertilizer will temporarily suspend production at its potassium sulphate (SOP) facility in Köpmanholmen, Sweden to carry out a plant overhaul.
The shutdown will start in November and is expected to last 4-6 weeks, said today’s statement.
The decision will allow implementation of technical improvements in the production facility to increase production capacity. In a previous communication, the company said that it was unable to reach its current nameplate capacity of 100,000 t/y and was initiating a strategic review.
The company said this was an optimum time to carry out the work given the seasonality of the fertilizer markets and when the price of raw material and finished goods was impacting the company’s profitability negatively.
“The planned technical improvements include increasing cooling capacity for better production stability and increased production volumes, and installation of a filter system to reduce emissions of dust particles that improves the working environment,” said the company.
“This is good timing to conduct plant improvements given the seasonality of the fertilizer market. A short stop of production provides an opportunity for us to concentrate on implementing planned improvement measures with our own staff and external parties. This overhaul has been carefully planned in order to ensure minimum disruption in the supply of our product,” said Jakob Liedberg, CEO and founder of Cinis Fertilizer AB.
