Cinis Fertilizer increases its monthly production volume in August

September 12, 2025

Cinis Fertilizer increased its monthly production volume to 5,500 tonnes of potassium sulphate (SOP) in August, a 15% increase on July.

The Köpmanholmen facility in northern Sweden has been in operation for over a year and the company is providing updates as it ramps up to reach the plant’s production capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year. A monthly production volume of 5,500 tonnes implies an annual volume of 66,000 tonnes.

“Our optimization program continues, which results in higher capacity utilization. The work to locate deficiencies of various nature in the technical equipment to increase availability will continue in the coming months. We have now significantly raised the bar on what a normal production day should be, and all Cinis Fertilizer’s employees constantly seek the opportunities to, by the end of 2025, reach the plant’s production capacity of 100,000 tons potassium sulfate,” said Jakob Liedberg, CEO and founder of Cinis Fertilizer.

Cinis Fertilizer uses sodium sulphate – a by-product of paper mills – and combines it with muriate of potash (MOP) from the German producer K+S.

The company had intended to use sodium sulphate from the production of electric car batteries.

In July 2024, the car battery manufacturer Northvolt gave a delivery delay notice to Cinis Fertilizer. In October 2024, Northvolt’s expansion project in Skellefteå, also in northern Sweden, was cancelled and the expansion company filed for bankruptcy. The main factory stopped production in mid 2025.
