UK vertical farm Jones Food Company Ltd (JFC) has gone into administration, according to a public notice in The Gazette.
The administrators are RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP and were appointed on 7 April. Damian Webb and Stephanie Sutton were named as administrators in the notice.
JFC has two vertical farms, JFC1 in Scunthorpe, which opened in 2018, and JFC 2 in Lydney, which opened in 2023 (read here).
In order to get through the increase in energy prices in 2022, JFC had made efforts to reduce its electricity consumption (read here).
Among JFC’s investors were online retailer Ocado, which took a 58% stake in 2019.
This follows another high profile vertical farm to get into financial difficulties. The US company Plenty Unlimited filed for bankruptcy in March 2025.
