UPDATE: AeroFarms announces continuation of operations

December 19, 2025

AeroFarms, an indoor vertical farming company and a supplier of microgreens to the U.S. retail market, today announced the company is continuing to operate and supply microgreens to customers and shoppers.

This, following the announcement earlier this month of the closure of AeroFarms’ Virginia facility and the termination of all 173 employees, including its CEO and CFO. The closure was set to take effect today (Friday, December 19, 2025).

Since the time of its original announcement (Dec. 11 WARN notice), the company’s circumstances have evolved rapidly. A news release noted that an existing stakeholder (not named) has agreed to provide funding to AeroFarms, enabling the company to continue operations and explore strategic alternatives.

“AeroFarms is deeply grateful to its employees, partners, vendors, customers, and stakeholders for their unwavering support of AeroFarms and belief in the power of its highly differentiated microgreens products,” stated the company. “The company is committed to its mission of growing and distributing flavourful, nutrient-dense greens while supporting a resilient and sustainable food system.”

The press release did not reveal specifics about the size, duration, or terms of the new funding, nor did it address the status of the workforce, the operation of facilities, or whether the WARN notice filed with Virginia Works will be updated or rescinded.
