Agrii Unveils £1M Research Glasshouse to Accelerate Agricultural Innovation

August 15, 2025

Agrii, in partnership with parent company Origin Enterprises Plc, has invested £1 million in a research glasshouse at Throws Farm Technology Centre, UK.

The company says the 480m² facility represents the only purpose-built research glasshouse operated by a UK agronomy services provider.

Research will be carried out year-round and provide a testing ground for biological solutions, including biostimulants and microbial seed treatments, advanced adjuvants, fertiliser technologies, and advanced crop technologies.

“This facility embodies our ambition to be a leader in applied crop research,” said Ronan Hughes, Agrii Managing Director. “It allows us to explore broader applications and test ‘what if’ scenarios – essential for addressing future regulatory and climate challenges.”

Dr. Ruth Mann, Head of Integrated Technologies, highlighted the critical timing of this investment: “Bio-solutions outnumber synthetic ones in the current pipeline by a factor of 10, but unlocking their full potential depends on rigorous, controlled trials.”

The facility connects directly to over 45,000 field trial plots, ensuring research translates into practical, evidence-based recommendations for farmers facing increasing regulatory pressures and demands for sustainable farming practices.
