Verde AgriTech Ltd. has announced a significant advancement in sustainable agriculture technology with the approval of a new Brazilian patent for its subsidiary, Verde Fertilizantes LTDA. The patent (No. BR 10 2021 015788 7) covers an innovative industrial process for producing mineral fertilizers enhanced with biological additives.
Granted by Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), the patent protects both the manufacturing process and the resulting fertilizer products, which can be produced in powdered, granulated, or microgranulated forms.
Verde AgriTech specializes in specialty multi-nutrient potassium fertilizers and focuses on sustainable agriculture technologies. Operating primarily in Brazil, the company’s approach emphasizes carbon capture and eco-friendly fertilizer production.
Technological innovation
The patented technology combines glauconitic siltstone – a potassium-rich sedimentary rock – with beneficial microorganisms through industrial spraying techniques. What sets this process apart is the elimination of the traditional drying stage in fertilizer production, which significantly reduces manufacturing costs while preserving the viability of the beneficial microorganisms for up to 180 days.
“We are proud to announce this achievement,” said Cristiano Veloso, CEO and founder of Verde AgriTech. “Fertilizers remain the most important technology for boosting agricultural productivity, and continuous innovation is essential to meeting farmers’ evolving needs.”
The company says the technology enables the integration of various bacteria and fungi that provide multiple benefits to agricultural systems:
• Nitrogen fixation, converting atmospheric nitrogen into plant-usable forms
• Phosphate solubilization, making insoluble phosphorus available to plants
• Biocontrol capabilities against pests and diseases
• Plant growth promotion
The company says the patent strengthens its intellectual property portfolio, which now includes five granted patents in Brazil and three pending applications.
