2BMonthly publishes essential insight from industry leaders in State of the Industry 2025 report

January 7, 2026

2BMonthly published its essential insight from industry leaders in its annual State of the Industry 2025 report, released in the December 2025 issue. This year’s report touched on a wide range of compelling topics including tariffs, advice for start-ups, Brazil, Asia, Africa, as well as single biostimulant molecules and gene editing, said lead author on the report, Rick Melnick, Managing Partner, DunhamTrimmer.

The report included a record number of executive participants answering nine different questions relating to markets, technologies, regulations, and trade.

The bio-inputs market in Brazil was among the questions taken from the perspective of increasing price competition. Amália Borsari, Director of Bioinputs at CropLife Brazil said the market was entering a new phase of maturity. “We are moving from a period of rapid, undifferentiated expansion to a far more selective and performance-driven cycle.”

Vladyslav Bolokhovskyi, CEO, Co-founder, BTU commented: “Brazil is not the only market facing this challenge. When it comes to biologicals for row crops, producers must apply a pricing strategy that ensures profitability for farmers while still covering distribution costs. The market is very large, but margins cannot be as high as in high-value crops.” Bolokhovskyi went on to describe a two-segment model for bio-inputs.

Ignacio Dominguez, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Rovensa Next: “Brazil’s biocontrol market has expanded quickly with over 600 registrations since 2011, though this has come with rising price pressure on first-generation and less-differentiated products.” Dominguez continued by describing two key challenges for the market.

Other questions looked at the ways trade disruptions and tariffs have impacted the business environment in 2025, and how their companies were adapting their strategies.

On the topic of biocontrol, the question for the participants was: “Europe appears poised to adopt a formal, EU-wide definition of biocontrol. Do you see this as real progress or another false dawn?”
The State of the Industry then moved to investment and the funding issues facing start-ups, then to small biostimulant molecules. The panel was asked: “Do you view small biostimulant molecules (SBMs) as the next growth engine for the biostimulant industry?”

Dorn Severtson, Director, Phibro Plant Solutions told 2BMonthly: “This segment continues to expand rapidly with new technology, primarily due to the lower regulatory barrier of entry. I see categories like metabolites expanding the fastest primarily due to the ease of channel inclusion. Technology that has a long shelf life, compatible with existing inputs (chemistry and fertilizers), and aligns with current application methods will see the best growth opportunities.”

The panel’s view on gene-editing was also sought. Sarah Reiter, Senior Vice President, Business Development, BioConsortia: “Gene editing is an important tool to accelerate microbial performance and trait discovery; BioConsortia has publicly discussed gene editing as part of its platform to boost nitrogen fixation, nematicide metabolites and other functions — used responsibly, it can help biologicals deliver predictable, scalable benefits in mainstream systems.”

Pam Marrone, Co-Founder & Executive Chair, Invasive Species Corporation: “Pivot Bio already showed us that a gene-edited product can be successfully deployed… More gene-edited products for N fixation are coming. Gene-edited insects and microbes for pest management are coming. They will be effective additions to the IPM toolbox.”

Redesign for 2BMonthly
The publication of the State of the Industry coincided with a re-design of 2BMonthly, which was launched back in 2013 as a joint venture between DunhamTrimmer and New AG International.

The publication has grown to become the most widely read biologicals industry news source, with subscribers on five continents and readers ranging from pre-revenue start-ups all the way to the titan multinationals.

In December, the publication unveiled its new design, adopting a format more in line with its growth and evolution. The eagle-eyed will note that “value-added fertilizer” being added to the strapline. This reflects the growing use of biologicals in fertilizer products – a trend that 2BMonthly sees increasing. This new design offers the freedom to better spotlight the individuals, companies, and organizations covered every month, as well as bringing a new level of data and graphic elements to the readership.
