Biotalys has secured California registration for EVOCA, its protein-based biofungicide, strengthening the regulatory pathway for the product’s next-generation version, EVOCA NG.

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) granted state registration following completion of a public consultation process in July. The company said the decision confirms that EVOCA met California’s requirements for human health, environmental safety and product performance.

California has some of the most stringent requirements for crop protection products in the U.S., making the registration an important regulatory milestone for Biotalys. The company said the decision also provides additional support for its AGROBODY technology platform, which is used to develop its protein-based crop protection products.

“This California registration is an important achievement for Biotalys,” said Carlo Boutton, CEO of Biotalys. He said meeting California’s scientific and regulatory requirements demonstrates the potential of the company’s AGROBODY products as a new type of protein-based crop protection solution.

EVOCA is designed to control Botrytis (grey mold) and powdery mildew in fruit and vegetable crops. It received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval in December 2025, followed by state registrations in Florida and now California.

The California approval is particularly relevant to EVOCA NG because the next-generation product uses the same active ingredient and AGROBODY technology as EVOCA. Biotalys plans to submit EVOCA NG for regulatory approval based on the existing EVOCA registration.

“EVOCA NG is one of the lead assets in our refocused strategy and is expected to become our first commercial product,” Boutton said. The company expects to launch EVOCA NG in the U.S. in 2029 and Europe in 2030.

Biotalys estimates the combined market targeted by EVOCA NG in the two regions at about US$1.1 billion.

The company said the California registration, together with the Florida approval and EPA authorization, gives it a stronger foundation for building a commercial presence in the U.S. Regulatory review of EVOCA is continuing in the European Union.
