REPLOID Group AG is planning to expand into industrial-scale fertilizer production through the acquisition of a fertilizer plant in Bavaria, Germany, a move aimed at strengthening its regional nutrient production strategy.

The company’s subsidiary, REPLOID REGREEN GmbH, is in advanced negotiations with two fertilizer producers and expects to select one acquisition target in the coming weeks. If completed, the purchase would provide REPLOID with its first industrial-scale fertilizer manufacturing facility.

The company says the acquisition would support its strategy of processing insect frass – a byproduct of black soldier fly production – into fertilizer close to where it is produced.

REPLOID has been expanding its operations in southern Germany since opening a ReFarmUnit in Burghausen in March 2026. The modular facilities use black soldier fly larvae to convert food industry residues into insect protein, insect fat and insect frass, which serves as the raw material for organic fertilizers.

Rather than transporting materials over long distances, the planned fertilizer plant would allow insect frass produced in Bavaria to be processed locally into finished fertilizer products.

To support the expansion, REPLOID has established REPLOID REGREEN GmbH as a dedicated business focused on fertilizer production, product development and sales. The business is led by Andreas Steinbüchler, former chief commercial officer of LAT Nitrogen GmbH and former president of Fertilizers Europe.

“Europe’s nutrient supply is heavily dependent on imports whose prices no one here can influence. We are changing that with regional production – not as a niche, but at industrial scale. In Bavaria, we already have the feedstock and a ReFarmUnit in place, and the customers are right next door. A dedicated fertilizer plant is therefore the next logical step and we are moving on it quickly,” Steinbüchler said.

The company plans to manufacture both organic fertilizers and hybrid fertilizers that combine organic nutrient sources with mineral components.

REPLOID REGREEN is targeting customers in agriculture, home gardening and professional landscape management. From its planned Bavarian production base, the company expects to serve customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Italy.

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Wels, Austria, REPLOID develops modular insect-rearing systems that convert food industry residues into insect-derived products, including proteins, fats and fertilizer ingredients. The company employs more than 190 people and has been publicly listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange since 2025.
