Nousbo and SK Leaveo to commercialize slow-release coated fertilizer

May 27, 2024

South Korean companies Nousbo and SK Leaveo have signed a business agreement to commercialize biodegradable, slow-release coated fertilizers.

Through this agreement, Nousbo and SK Leaveo will collaborate on product planning, production and marketing strategies to meet global fertilizer market trends, while SK Leaveo will develop biodegradable resins for coated fertilizer production, with the goal of launching the new product in the first quarter of 2025.

SK Leaveo plans to lead the domestic and international markets by mass-producing biodegradable resins suitable for controlling fertilizer release.

Earlier this month, SK Leaveo held a groundbreaking ceremony for a PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate) production plant in the Hai Phong City Special Economic Zone in Vietnam. The production facility is said to have an annual production capacity of 70,000 tons. PBAT is a so-called “rotting plastic” that can replace conventional plastics while reducing environmental problems caused by waste by being naturally degraded by microorganisms in landfills.

Nousbo stated it expanded its coating fertilizer production facilities last year and achieved an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons.
