The new 50,000 t/y technical monoammonium phosphate (tMAP) plant in Serbia, a joint project between K+S and Elixir Group, is scheduled to start up in Q1 2026.
The plan is for finished product to be leaving the factory in Q1 2026, Deniz Höfner from K+S told New AG International on the sidelines at IFA Markets Conference in London, 1-2 July.
This start-up is in line with the project announcement back in 2023. The Euro 35 million project is being built at Elixir’s location in Prahovo, Serbia, where phosphoric acid, a key raw material for the tMAP, is produced.
“Elixir Group has undertaken the construction of a new factory with all storage and infrastructure capacities, while the K+S company will distribute the product through its global distribution network in with main focus on the Europe, Eastern Europe and Indian market,” said Matthias Predojevic, Vice President Corporate Development at Elixir Group, when announcing the deal in 2023. Other markets will include Turkey and the Middle East.
“This important product will put the company Elixir Prahovo on the map of European producers of water-soluble crystal fertilizer, an extremely important product in modern agriculture,” said Predojevic.
Current global production of tMAP is about 1.5 million tonnes, according to Predojevic, with the majority coming from China. Increasingly that tMAP has been used in Chinese battery production for electric vehicles. In his presentation at IFA Markets, Höfner estimated that half of Chinese tMAP now goes into battery production.
