Mitsui & Co. becoming shareholder of Belchim Crop Protection

Belchim Crop Protection (BCP) announces that Mitsui & Co. Ltd. has reached agreement to acquire a controlling interest in BCP through Mitsui’s affiliate, Mitsui AgriScience International (MASI).

The agreement, reached on 6 December 2019, means MASI will become shareholder of BCP by acquiring the shares held by Belchim Management and its affiliate.

Subject to European Commission approval, the acquisition will be made in two stages; in the first, 30 percent of BCP shares will be acquired along with control of the business. The remaining 32 percent will be acquired in February 2021.

Belchim will reinforce its mission to be the best market access to farmers in Europe and North America to provide innovative solutions based on products from its Japanese origin shareholders ISK Biosciences Europe (IBE) and Mitsui Chemicals Agro (MCAG) as well as other Japanese research companies.

Belchim will continue to act as an independent distribution company, and will explore opportunities to collaborate and improve services to customers and suppliers with other members of the Mitsui group. Through this investment in BCP, Mitsui will further strengthen its distribution platforms for agrochemicals, while also contributing to the advancement of agriculture.
