Pessl Instruments GmbH takes a strategic minority equity position in Geoprospectors GmbH

Pessl Instruments GmbH has become a strategic minority investor of the Austrian startup Geoprospectors GmbH. The Austrian company Geoprospectors was awarded a silver medal for innovations at Agritechnica in 2015. Since then the two companies have had regular exchanges. In September 2017, an exclusive distribution contract was signed between Geoprospectors and Pessl Instruments in Australia and New Zealand - Metos ANZ.

Pessl Instruments, a global provider of agricultural electronics with a focus on connected sensors and Internet of Things, markets decision making solutions under the Metos brand. The company has subsidiaries in 12 countries and sells to over 60 countries.

Geoprospectors’ geophysical sensor technology complements well with the soil moisture, weather, camera and nutrient sensors from Pessl Instruments. In addition to the sensors Pessl Instruments is also a specialist in connecting all these measuring devices in a holistic approach. It has recently partnered up with SAP® Connected Agriculture through their Leonardo platform. With the partnership of Inmarsat recently announced, it offers  worldwide connectivity to any remote place through a combination of satellite and LPWAN (LoRa, WIFI) solutions.

Geoprospectors is a supplier of soil sensors for precision agriculture and subsurface engineering. The solutions use a range of different geophysical technologies to collect valuable data about soil resources. Data is fully recorded and analyzed automatically.

With the Topsoil Mapper, Pessl Instruments offers a new product for agricultural service providers that enables the automation of smart farming processes. The cooperation also provides Geoprospectors with the opportunity to increase the connectivity of the Topsoil Mapper with other sensor systems and jointly develop new sales opportunities. The main goal of both companies is to facilitate its clients an entry to digital agriculture with innovative packages.
