UAE vertical farm Bustanica moves into e-commerce

March 11, 2025

Vertical farm Bustanica and Careem Groceries are partnering to bring leafy greens directly to customers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi via a mobile phone app.

Backed by a $40 million investment, Bustanica is based near Al Maktoum International Airport, producing 1,000 tonnes per year of leafy greens.

Bustanica’s output has been available across all major retailers over the past two years and is a recognised household brand, the company told New AG International.

“As part of our new strategy we are expanding into E-commerce to make our products easily available to our customers,” a spokesperson for Bustanica said.

Emirates Flight Catering fully acquired Emirates Bustanica, formerly called Emirates Crop One, and its consumer brand Bustanica, in February 2024.

Kieran Dowd, GM Emirates Bustanica & VP Sourcing solution at Emirates Flight Catering, commented: “Through Careem’s cutting edge technology platform and sophisticated delivery network, we can ensure our high-quality products reach customers with the speed, convenience and excellence they deserve. The future of retail is digital and partnering with a true pioneer in the Middle East’s digital ecosystem, positions us to create a seamless and elevated experience for our valued customers.”
