BeCapital takes over Goemar
On June 2nd, the French company Goemar, leader in marine biotechnology including seaweed-based products and biostimulants, and inventor of the concept of vaccine for the plants in 2002 (Iodus product line), announced that it was selling its Plant Health Division to BeCapital, an investment fund based in Luxemburg specializing in acquisitions and development of enterprises active in eco-friendly innovative products and technologies. BeCapital was chosen among a number of other bidders, most of them from the Agrochemicals, biostimulants and specialty plant nutrition industry in Europe. The deal closed by BeCapital includes the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Laboratoires Goemar SA as well as its US subsidiaries GIC and Agrimar. The amount of the transaction was not made public. BeCapital will inject into Goemar the necessary means to pursue its organic growth strategy through innovation while at the same time accelerating external growth.
Goemar is a member of IBMA (International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association) and recently also joined the French Association of Fertilizer Producers (UNIFA).
In 2009, the company claimed a sales turnover of about Euros 20 million, with international sales accounting for roughly 50%. The company invests about 15% of the turnover in R&D, a record high in this industry.
It may also be remembered that on 30th September 2008, the Goëmar group had announced the sale of its Laboratoire de la Mer subsidiary to the CH-Pharma holding company, which is held mainly by the investment fund TCR Industrial Partner.
