Indian Department of Fertilizers petitioned to include water soluble fertilizers under NBS
The DOF has been petitioned to extend the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme to 100% water soluble fertilizers which are covered under the FCO (vide G.R. No.2-2/99 Dated 16 Jan 2003 & No 2-1/02 dated 12 May 2003).
- In all there are 10 such water soluble fertilizers under the FCO.
- The petitioned claimed that many farmers user such fertilizers for horticulture crops as well as for cash crops.
- Water soluble fertilizers are also used along with micronutrients as foliar spray under different formulations.
- The petition ( see below) has given details of calculations of the possible NBS on each such fertilizer.

On all India basis, many farmers are using 100% water soluble Fertilizers through drip & sprinkler Irrigation as fertigation programme for soil application and foliar feeding through crop leaves and their branches & steam, respectively for horticulture crops viz. Grapes, Pomegranate, Papaya, Banana, Citrus family viz. Orange, Sweet Lime, Kinoo, Lemon etc. besides Cash Crop like, Sugar Cane, Cotton; Tea & Coffee plantation as well Spices namely Cardamom, Chillies, Gingar, Garlic, Turmeric etc.
These Water Soluble fertilizers along with . secondary and micronutrients together are also applied as foliar spray as per growth stage with different formulations to these horticulture crops as well as vegetables besides floriculture cut flower projects.
These are also suitable for enhancing hidden deficiencies on normal agricultural crops like pulses, oil seeds as well as cereals: Thus, the usage of 100% Water Soluble Fertilizer is day by day increasing in our country as a fertigation programme as well as foliar feeding through sprays.
The Nutrient Based Subsidy declared by Government of India should also be applicable to 100% Water Soluble Fertilizers which are covered under FCO vide G.R. No.2-2/99 Dated 16 Jan 2003 & No 2-1/02 dated 12 May 2003. We, therefore, request you to kindly consider and declare nutrient based subsidy for the following Water Soluble Fertilizers as per table given below:
