T-Systems International, Inc. and Chapin Watermatics, Inc. resolve their dispute over T-Systems’ patented drip irrigation technology
T-Systems International, Inc., of San Diego, California and Chapin Watermatics, Inc. of Watertown, New York, announced on November 20th that they have amicably resolved their dispute over T-Systems’ patented drip irrigation technology featuring a flow regulating channel and single slit outlet port. As part of that resolution, Chapin has taken a license to several of T-Systems’ U.S. and international product and manufacturing patents, and the parties have agreed that for the next seven and a half years they will not be resorting to litigation with each other over drip tape products.
“This agreement underscores T-System’s patented slit-outlet technology as the universally preferred way to deliver the right irrigation flow with high reliability and low maintenance,” said Bob Brendel, President and CEO of T-Systems. “Following Chapin’s recent acquisition by Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. of India, we know this superior technology will be carried around the world by strong market participants. With our T-Tape® brand we look forward to competing head-to-head with Chapin in the crop fields of every nation, rather than in any courtroom.”
Narinder Gupta, Chapin’s CEO, said, “In line with Jain’s philosophy to avoid litigation as far as possible and stay focused on the target to be among the top three irrigation companies in the world, we have opted to resolve this patent dispute with T-Systems. Chapin Tape is known world over for its pioneering and established product quality since 1960. Our focused marketing approach will take the reliable and enduring Chapin brand to higher levels in the various world markets meeting exacting requirements of discerning customers.”
